IOM produces Creole-language posters for the prevention of COVID-19 in the Dominican Republic's private sector

Santo Domingo - Given the characteristics of the construction sector in the Dominican Republic, which has approximately 95,000 Haitian migrant workers, the International Organization for Migration has formed a strategic alliance with ACOPROVI (the Association of Construction and Housing Developers) to work together to improve the conditions of migrant workers.

Honduras: IOM provides important donations for the attention of migrants

Tegucigalpa, 09 June 2020 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) donated furniture and hygiene kits to strengthen the care provided to migrants in the Centers for the Care of Irregular Migrants (CAMI), located in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and Choluteca. These centers are managed by the National Migration Institute (INM). The donation includes two washing machines, two dryers, 200 towels and shower curtains, among other products.

IOM promotes improvements to the work permit system for foreigners in Costa Rica

The International Organization for Migration in Costa Rica (IOM), in conjunction with the International Labor Organization (ILO), has been supporting the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) and the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners (DGME) since 2019 in strengthening Costa Rica's labour migration system. As part of this partnership, on Tuesday, June 23, IOM made a significant donation to the MTSS Labor Migration Department.

IOM strengthens Belize's tourism sector against trafficking in persons

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in coordination with the Belize Anti-Trafficking Council facilitated training on human trafficking for key personnel in the tourism sector.  Human trafficking networks often use the infrastructure and facilities of the tourism industry to commit this crime, so awareness and training of the sector is key.

El Salvador: IOM trains local teams to protect migrant children

A series of virtual sessions developed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in El Salvador trained public officials in the best approach to assist migrant children and adolescents. The course is called Specialized Course on Migrant Children and has been implemented in the region since 2017. On this occasion, 13 people representing Local Law Committees and the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONNA) participated.

Government and private sector to be trained to include migrants in post COVID-19 economic recovery

Mexicali, Baja California – Aiming to underline the importance of migration in any development process, and even in the economic recovery after COVID-19, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Mexico and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have joined the State Comission of Human Rights of Baja California (CEDHBC) to present an online training plan for government officials and the private sector. This will promote the social and economic inclusion of people in human mobility contexts in the country.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Costa Rica is working alongside the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), the General Directorate of Migration and Aliens (DGME) and its Management Unit forTrafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, to prevent sexual cyber-crime in the wake of the COVID-19. In contexts of crisis, risk and exposure to trafficking in persons are heightened, and in this case social media can be promoted as a means of recruitment for this and other crimes.
