IOM starts Training Programe on Migration Policies at the Regional Conference on Migration

The new Training Programe on Migration Policies, facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), seeks to strengthen the capacities of public officials of the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM) in the design, implementation and evaluation of public policies on migration . The Program consists of an IOM online course, Migration Trends in Latin America, a panel with international experts and three virtual sessions for technical exchange on migration policies.

IOM supports Mexico in the economic recovery of migrant workers

The working population in Mexico has been strongly affected by the economic situation generated by COVID-19. The Mexican Social Security Institute reported that, by the end of May, 838.272 jobs had disappeared, 340.000 of them in just one month. Migrant workers have not been exemptedand the situation has been particularly hard on those working in commerce and domestic work, two sectors heavily affected by the physical distancing measures.

IOM concludes training cycle for Information Hub staff to inform and assist in times of COVID-19

Ante los retos planteados por la pandemia del COVID-19, la OIM desarrolló una serie de entrenamientos al personal de las ventanillas informativas sobre migración para adaptar sus servicios de atención a personas migrantes a la virtualidad. Lo anterior, en base a una breve guía práctica publicada para estos efectos por la OIM, que viene a complementar el manual ya existente sobre las ventanillas.

IOM trains over 200 officials from local anti-trafficking-in-persons committees in Honduras

More than 200 people participated in the first training session on Local Response to Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Honduras. The activity is part of a collaboration between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Inter-institutional Commission against Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons of Honduras (CICESCT).

IOM´s Diploma in Belize begins third course

The first graduating class of the Diploma on Migration Management has started its third specialized course, entitled "Migration Governance and Policies". This is part of an ambitious training project developed by IOM in conjunction with Galen University, in which 67 people have participated since the introductory course in 2018.

The National Department of Employment in El Salvador receives training on ethical recruitment of migrants

On June 25 and 30, 2020, virtual workshops were held with 27 people who work in the regional offices of the National Department of Employment of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of El Salvador. The objective was to discuss the general aspects of the International Integrity System for Recruitment (IRIS) and motivate participants to use them in their work.

IOM successfully concludes regional diploma course on labour migration

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Independent Monitoring Group of El Salvador (GMIES) held the closing ceremony of the Diploma on Labor Migration on June 30, with technical assistance from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Specialized Institute of Higher Education for Diplomatic Training (IEESFORD).

The Educational Toolkit on Migration arrives at the south of Honduras

Choluteca (Honduras), 2 July 2020. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has begun the process of capacity-building and methodological transfer of the Educational Toolkit on Migration with teachers from southern Honduras.  The toolkit is an online repository validated by IOM, were materials can be downloaded and used to develop educational campaigns and activities on migration.
